Come along on a journey to the mysterious #Marrakech. In the middle of Morocco lies the probably most #colourful city you will ever see. The former capital of #Morocco in the centre of the country is lively and beautiful. Immediately plunge into the #labyrinth that awaits you in the medina, the old town of Marrakech. Streets full of people, #markets full of scents and a city whose palm trees sit enthroned like watchmen in the city. Walk through the streets of the city, be enchanted by the impressive mosques and #gardens and enjoy the typical #oriental scent of Moroccan #cuisine. Whoever has been here once knows for sure: this place will never let you go.

Find the hidden gardens - Marrakech looks very barren, dry and brown at first sight. This is mainly due to the earth-coloured houses and the narrow dusty alleys in the medina. Walking around here in hot temperatures is more strenuous than one might think. After all, there are so many impressions coming up to one. But the green, beautifully arranged gardens show a completely different Marrakech. Relax in Le Jardin Secret on a bench or have a drink at the top of the terrace. Try the homemade #lemonade, it is super delicious. And although the Jardin Majorelle is much fuller and of course touristical, it is also very #beautiful there. If you have the time, then you should definitely go out of Marrakech and have a #unique desert experience.

Pay attention to your choice of clothes - Of course you are just tourists and in your culture "revealing" #outfits, consisting of shorts and tops, may be perfectly okay. When you walk through the medina, however, you should behave #respectfully and also adapt a little. Just make sure that your shoulders are covered when strolling through the narrow streets of the old town. Long flowing and light clothes with long sleeves not only protect you from the strong sun, but also look better in the photos because they are simply fitting.

Fantastic accommodations that remind you of palaces from 1001 nights - If you want to stay in the heart of the medina and in a Moroccan accommodation, we can recommend one of the many beautiful #riads. These were once the homes of the wealthy, but many of them have now been converted into tourist accommodation. Riads are usually cheaper than luxury hotels in the modern part of Marrakech, but even here you do not have to do without any amenities: A beautiful courtyard lined with orange trees and plants awaits you, a sun terrace with a magnificent #view of the roofs of the old town and often a small pool to cool off on hot summer days.

A successful sightseeing tour through Marrakech starts on the Djemaa el Fna, the central square in Marrakech and probably the most important sight of the city. Did you know that this famous square once served as a place of execution for Moroccan criminals sentenced to death? Today you can see skilled merchants, #snake charmers, delicious smelling #cookshops as well as tourists and locals meandering through the maze of stalls.

Just the #exotic smells wafting to you from the various food stalls will guarantee that you won't be able to resist. All I can say is: delicious couscous dishes, cooked in an earthenware pot, the so-called tajine, vegetables with meat and local spices or a juicy piece of lamb, followed by a delicious date tart, accompanied by a freshly prepared sweet mint tea - typically oriental and simply #delicious!

From the central market place you continue into the beautiful old town of Marrakech. Once there, you will be overwhelmed by the most diverse impressions: Unique works of #art made of wood, #ceramics and copper, #colourful patterned fabrics, spice pyramids and the typical #mosaic lamps create a very special charm. In this part of the city there are the so-called "Souks", also called bazaar alleys. It is said that the largest souks of Morocco are located in Marrakech. Mostly they are located on the squares, in small narrow alleys or just in the medina.

Bargain like a Berber - You found something you like? Then ask for the price and suggest half of it first. Negotiating is something of a must here. If you want to buy something, you have to agree on a price or get ripped off "tourist-wise". It takes some #negotiating skills, because the seller will try to get the best or highest price.

You do not like the price? Then just say that you will keep looking around or come back later - it works wonders.

The best travel time for Marrakech

If you have problems with the heat, then travel to Marrakesh a little later in the year. And avoid the summer. Because then temperatures up to 50 degrees Celsius (!) are often reached. And this is hardly bearable while walking around in the old town.
