Ayia Napa is known for its wild parties that never seem to end, amazing beaches, calm waters, and outdoor activities. 24/7 fun is simply guaranteed!

Good To Know:

  • Getting There: The closest airport to Ayia Napa is in Larnaca, about 50 km (31 miles) away. There are regular shuttle buses that will take you directly into Ayia Napas center in around 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can fly into Paphos. However, the bus journey from Paphos to Ayia Napa takes twice as long.
  • Getting Around: Depending on your plans, you have the option of renting a car, quad bike, or buggy, or relying on public transport and taxi cabs. Car and quad rentals are fairly cheap and widely available. If you're fine with taking the bus to and from the airport and don't want to explore much outside of Ayia Napa, while still being flexible, quads are the best option for you. Some places are only reachable offroad, which lends the quad another advantage over the other options. Pure party- and beachgoers will find public transport sufficient, as the main places are all within walking distance of each other. Note that cabs tend to be expensive here!
  • When to Visit: Ayia Napa is a very seasonal destination. Most places close down between November and March, with the high season being between mid-June and the end of September. If you're spending the off-season in Larnaca, the area will still be a great destination to visit even during the colder months!
  • How Long to Visit: Whether you're just staying the weekend or two full weeks, there is plenty to do and see!
  • Who Should Visit: Ayia Napa is a distinctively young and tourist-y town. The parties are wild and loud and move from the clubs at night to the beaches during the day. If it is a calm, relaxing beach trip you're looking for, check out Protaras: just as beautiful but much more family and wellness friendly. If you want to experience Cypriot culture, avoid Ayia Napa as well, as it is far from being a cultural representative of Cyprus.
  • Where to Stay: You'll find anything between cheap hostels and large luxury hotel chains here. Be sure to stay within the town center if you care about going out at night. Most accommodations will have a pool, and plenty of aparthotels will also offer pool and cocktail parties during the day!
  • As in most party towns, basic safety rules apply: don't accept unsolicited drink offers, be careful if you're out alone at night, and keep your valuables close by or locked away in your hotel's safe.

Highlights

Ayia Napa Square

This is where the nightlife is. The three main streets forming the city center are packed with bars and clubs, some classic, some modern, some out underneath the night sky, and some inside on three levels. Promoters swarm the streets offering you the best deals and trying to convince you why their bar is the best of them all. Usually, you can barter with them a little to get even better deals. Many clubs don't open until around 2 am, so spend the hours before hopping from bar to bar, experiencing the gimmicks that make each unique. Some examples of such gimmicks are the silent disco (everyone wears colorful headphones with the same music) in the Bedrock Bar or playing "Just Dance" with everyone else in Pirate's Bar.

Cape Greco

The southwesternmost point in Cyprus is Cape Greco, not far from Ayia Napa. Famous for its blue lagoon and jagged rocks, it's definitely worth the visit. If you don't want to drive, join a Blue Lagoon Cruise that will take you here, as well as to the nearby Sea Caves: Ayia Napa's unofficial cliff-diving spot. Even if you see people jumping off of the 12 m (40 ft) tall cliffs and the lifeguard on duty, note that it is technically forbidden and very dangerous to dive here. So maybe stick to gazing upon the turquoise waters!

Beaches

Nissi Beach is Ayia Napa's most famous beach. The white sands and crystal clear water would suggest you were in the Maldives and the beach bars right behind make it seem like you never left the clubs. On weekends, Nissi's bars often hold themed parties! If you're over dancing or lounging around on the sand wade through the waist-deep sea to Ayia Napa Island and join the available water sports (think: banana boat rides, jet skis,...). Nissi fills up FAST, so come early or don't expect to find any available beach loungers. Thankfully, Nissi isn't the area's only gorgeous beach! Makronissos Beach in Ayia Napa or  Konnos Bay and Fig Tree Bay in the Protaras region are other well-known beaches that can easily compete with Nissi.
