Sardinia is a beautiful Mediterranean island off the coast of Italy, known for its stunning beaches and unique culture. Whether you're looking for a relaxing beach vacation or an adventurous getaway in nature, Sardinia has something for everyone.

Good to know:

  • Getting there: The island can be reached by ferry or by plane. If you want to fly, choose Cagliari airport in the south or Olbia airport in the north. However, you can also take a great mini-cruise in the Mediterranean Sea with ferries operating from Italy and France.
  • Getting Around: As is often the case, a rental car is the most flexible option to reach every corner of the island. Public transportation, especially between the larger cities, is also an excellent alternative to a car if you just want to explore the highlights. Ferries run regularly between Sardinia and the smaller islands.
  • Where to Stay: If you want to explore the north of the island, base yourself near Olbia or Alghero. Cagliari and its surroundings are a good base for the south.
  • When to visit: Spring, summer and fall are the best times to visit. We recommend mid to late spring when the island is in full bloom and the summer crowds are not yet here.
  • How Long to Visit: Stay at least a week to get to know the north and south of Sardinia. For a long weekend trip, it's best to focus on one part of the island.

Highlights:

Costa Smeralda:

This stretch of coastline in the northeast of the island is known for its luxury resorts. But don't let that deter you, because the beaches of the Costa Smeralda are simply breathtaking, with crystal clear waters, white sand, and lush vegetation.

Alghero:

This charming town has a unique Catalan-influenced architecture and culture. Stroll through the historic center with its narrow streets and colorful buildings and enjoy the local cuisine, which is heavily influenced by Spanish and Catalan cooking. The city is also an ideal base for exploring the nearby island of Asinara, a nature reserve with diverse wildlife and beautiful beaches.

Cagliari:

Cagliari, the capital of Sardinia, is an ancient city with a rich history dating back to Phoenician times. With its charming old town, excellent cuisine and lively nightlife, Cagliari is the ideal starting point to explore the south of the island.

The Gola Su Gorropu:

This deep gorge in the northeast of the island is considered one of the most beautiful natural wonders of Sardinia and is a must for nature lovers. Walking along the paths that lead to the bottom of the gorge, where you can find crystal clear pools of water, you can admire the rugged beauty of the landscape.

La Maddalena Archipelago:

This group of islands in the north of Sardinia is known for its crystal clear waters and beautiful beaches. It is also a popular destination for divers and boaters. Take a boat tour around the islands, discover hidden coves and secluded beaches and admire the landscapes.
