A hidden gem in the Aegean Sea, Chalkidiki is a destination that captures the essence of Greece. With crystal-clear waters, sandy beaches, and pine forests that reach the shore, Chalkidiki is a paradise for nature lovers. Chalkidiki's history and culture are also fascinating, with ancient ruins, medieval castles, and religious sites scattered throughout the region. The region's small villages and towns, where traditions and customs are still alive, are a reminder of Chalkidiki's rich cultural heritage.

The area comprises three "fingers," each with a unique character and charm. Kassandra is the westernmost and most developed of the three peninsulas. Sithonia is a more secluded and laid-back central peninsula with pristine beaches and hidden coves. Lastly, Mount Athos, also known as the "Holy Mountain," is an autonomous monastic state and UNESCO World Heritage site, accessible only by men with a special permit for religious reasons.

Highlights:

Kassandra:

Kassandra is the first peninsula of Chalkidiki, famous for its endless sandy beaches, turquoise waters, and picturesque villages that preserve the local traditions and customs. The lively resort towns of Kallithea and Hanioti are the main attractions of Kassandra, offering a plethora of entertainment options, nightlife, beach bars, and restaurants. The peninsula also houses many historic sites, such as the temple of Zeus Amon. The temple was built in the 4th century BC in honor of its namesake god, who was believed to be the town's protector. Explore the ruins of the temple and marvel at its stunning surroundings. Be sure to also visit Afitos, a charming traditional village on the peninsula's eastern coast. The town is characterized by narrow alleys, picturesque houses with red-tiled roofs and stunning sea views. Its stone-paved streets lead to quaint squares, traditional tavernas and cafes, where you can enjoy delicious Greek cuisine and refreshing drinks.

Sithonia:

Its unspoiled natural beauty, crystal-clear waters, and stunning beaches make it the perfect destination for those seeking an off-the-beaten-path experience. The peninsula boasts some of the most secluded beaches in Greece, such as Armenistis, Porto Koufo, and Tristinika, where you can enjoy a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. Aside from stunning beaches, Sithonia is a hiker's paradise.

Mount Athos:

Though generally closed off to the public, you can see the monasteries of Mount Athos from afar on a day cruise beginning in Sithonia. The cruise takes you past the Athos Peninsula, where you'll be amazed by the intricate details of the ancient monasteries, some of which date back to the 9th century.
