You are planning a trip to Down Under and need some tips for #Sydney? Sydney is one of the largest cities in Australia and its landmark the Opera House has become the most famous sight in the country. Apart from modern #architecture, the metropolis also has a beautiful old town and last but not least paradisiacal #beaches that invite you to #surf and dive. Not to forget the impressive natural #landscape in the national parks that surround Sydney. Whether work and travel after high school or #backpacker holidays for advanced students - Sydney is a must see for all globetrotters.
There's really a lot to see in Sydney. The city is full of exciting sightseeings and cool places. The biggest highlights are for example the gigantic Harbour Bridge, the world famous opera house. To be honest, the #opera in Sydney is not only the landmark of the city but of the whole country. Those who see the building that was built in the year 1973 by Jørn Utzon immediately think of the country of #kangaroos and #koalas. Also at night, the building that is honoured as world cultural heritage is a feast for the eyes. Magnificently illuminated, it is enthroned on Circular Quay.
Further highlights are the high Sydney Tower or the botanical garden right behind the #harbour and at the Opera House. Here you can #relax in the middle of the city. Bring a #picnic and sit down at the bay with a fantastic view, stroll through the rose garden or discover the Oriental Garden.
Darling Harbour is perfect for an evening stroll past fountains, sculptures, #bars, cafes, restaurants and #museums.
Bondi Beach is probably the most famous beach in Sydney. The unique shape of the beach offers something for everyone. While the southern part gets bigger #waves, which are perfect for experienced #surfers, there are smaller waves at the northern end for relaxed swimming and beginners on the surfboard. Even for people who don't like the sticky salt on their skin, Bondi Beach offers an alternative: slightly elevated on a rock, there is a freshwater #swimming pool!
The best time to travel to Sydney
There is really a lot to #discover in Sydney. We therefore recommend four to seven nights. If you have more time, no problem! Even nine days or more can be easily managed here.
The city lies within a subtropical climate zone. Thus, there are #tropical, hot summers and slightly cooler winters. Furthermore, the seasons are 180 degrees off compared to Europe. The precipitation amounts are relatively the same during the whole year. In summer it rains with an average of eight days per month a little more than in winter with approximately six days. Thus, a rain jacket in the luggage cannot do any harm!
According to our opinion, the best time to travel to Sydney is the Australian summer between December and March. During these months it is the warmest, but due to the proximity to the ocean it also does not get too hot. Mostly you can expect temperatures between 25°C and 32°C.
It is a bit cooler in autumn (April/May) and spring (September/October/November). During these months the maximum temperatures vary between 20°C and 23°C. But in the evening it gets a bit colder and you should rather pack a jacket or a thick sweater.
The winter from June to August is much cooler compared to the summer. Maximum temperatures settle down at about 17°C, but at night the thermometer can drop below 10°C.
Local public transport
Sydney's public transport system is extremely well developed: You can use buses, trams (Light Rail), trains and even ferries to get from A to B.
Our tip: The Opal Card - This is a rechargeable smart card that allows you to use all public transport in Sydney. The card itself is free of charge, but you will need to load money to use the public transport. With the card you don't have to buy a single ticket every time and you will end up saving money. You can get the card either at the train station at the airport or at larger stops within the city. Also small kiosks offer the Opal-Card.
Before boarding and after alighting, hold the chip card against a card reader which you can find at the respective station. The fare is now automatically deducted. Important: Only for bus trips you have to stamp in and out within the bus. Otherwise you will be charged the full fare of the respective line.
